A lot has changed in India during
the past few decades. Earlier things and concept which were unknown to a
majority of Indians have, now become popular among a majority of Indians.
Thanks to advent of internet in India that now we are in sync with the
contemporary world. Earlier, the concept of international schools was an alien
thing for many Indians. However, today it has become popular among common
people of India.
Nowadays, many parents have started
giving priority to international Schools, when they start searching for
school for their children. Due to increasing pre-occupation for international
schools among many parents in India, number schools claiming to offer
international curriculum have come up in recent times. It is not essential that
these schools would implement the IB school curriculum, thus it is recommended
that before enrolling your child in any IB school, you make a comprehensive
study about the syllabus as well as other facilities, which forms an essential
part for an overall development of your child.
A major highlight of IB schools is
the international curriculum that is conceived in accordance with the
international educational norms. Many self proclaimed IB schools make
tall claims of following international curriculum. However, you should check
whether it is as per international standards and should preferably follow
Cambridge university curriculum or IB school curriculum. The school
should implement IB school programmes, which is modelled as per the
international standards and accepted universally.
For proper implementation of IB
school curriculum, highly qualified teachers are a major requisite. It is
advisable to check that the teachers are well qualified with the required
certificates and degrees, which are approved by international educational
bodies and make eligible to teach in school with IB school curriculum. A
teacher in international school should have thorough knowledge of at least one
foreign language other than English, along with a TELF (Teaching English as
Foreign Language) certificate.
Mere these qualifications are not
enough; the teachers in international school should have a thorough knowledge
of their subject and should have flair to teach students in such a way that the
children develop interest in the subject, reaching to the core of the subject
and just memorise the whole thing. Moreover the teachers should encourage
students to participate in various co-curricular and extracurricular that plays
an important role in overall development of the child. After all the primary
focus of any IB school programme is to make your child versatile and excel at
every walk of his life.
A good international school never
focuses on making the students machine, who cannot think on their own.
But they try to make the child independent and explore their own skies.
While searching for a good IB school in your city, make sure that the school
offers wide range of co-curricular and extracurricular activities to your
child. Participation in co-curricular activities such sports, arts, community
services, clubs, etc. makes your child learn to analyse and tackle the problem
on their own, increasing the confidence of your child.
Apart from having a reputation for
providing world class education with its IB school programme, International
schools are also well known for its healthy study environment. These
schools usually have campus spread over many acres, covered with trees. Thus,
it provides a healthy environment to study. Moreover, amenities like
spacious class rooms, huge play ground, safe and convenient transport
facilities are also some of the major strengths of IB schools.
Well, it is said that all that
glitters is not gold. Thus, it is important that you keep your eyes and mind
open while searching for the right international school for your kid.
