Qualities of a good international School


A lot has changed in India during the past few decades. Earlier things and concept which were unknown to a majority of Indians have, now become popular among a majority of Indians. Thanks to advent of internet in India that now we are in sync with the contemporary world. Earlier, the concept of international schools was an alien thing for many Indians. However, today it has become popular among common people of India.
Nowadays, many parents have started giving priority to international Schools, when they start searching for school for their children. Due to increasing pre-occupation for international schools among many parents in India, number schools claiming to offer international curriculum have come up in recent times. It is not essential that these schools would implement the IB school curriculum, thus it is recommended that before enrolling your child in any IB school, you make a comprehensive study about the syllabus as well as other facilities, which forms an essential part for an overall development of your child.
A major highlight of IB schools is the international curriculum that is conceived in accordance with the international educational norms.  Many self proclaimed IB schools make tall claims of following international curriculum. However, you should check whether it is as per international standards and should preferably follow Cambridge university curriculum or IB school curriculum.  The school should implement IB school programmes, which is modelled as per the international standards and accepted universally.
For proper implementation of IB school curriculum, highly qualified teachers are a major requisite.  It is advisable to check that the teachers are well qualified with the required certificates and degrees, which are approved by international educational bodies and make eligible to teach in school with IB school curriculum.  A teacher in international school should have thorough knowledge of at least one foreign language other than English, along with a TELF (Teaching English as Foreign Language) certificate.
Mere these qualifications are not enough; the teachers in international school should have a thorough knowledge of their subject and should have flair to teach students in such a way that the children develop interest in the subject, reaching to the core of the subject and just memorise the whole thing.  Moreover the teachers should encourage students to participate in various co-curricular and extracurricular that plays an important role in overall development of the child. After all the primary focus of any IB school programme is to make your child versatile and excel at every walk of his life.
A good international school never focuses on making the students machine, who cannot think on their own.  But they try to make the child independent and explore their own skies. While searching for a good IB school in your city, make sure that the school offers wide range of co-curricular and extracurricular activities to your child. Participation in co-curricular activities such sports, arts, community services, clubs, etc. makes your child learn to analyse and tackle the problem on their own, increasing the confidence of your child.
Apart from having a reputation for providing world class education with its IB school programme, International schools are also well known for its healthy study environment.  These schools usually have campus spread over many acres, covered with trees. Thus, it provides a healthy environment to study.  Moreover, amenities like spacious class rooms, huge play ground, safe and convenient transport facilities are also some of the major strengths of IB schools.
Well, it is said that all that glitters is not gold. Thus, it is important that you keep your eyes and mind open while searching for the right international school for your kid.
